Battling With Ships

Hey all of you Pirates,

It's been a while since i've posted here, but I'm back again!

With the release of the Closed Beta and people still waiting to be let aboard on the beta ship, J Todd Coleman and the crew at KI have been working in some spoiler pictures of beta!

The topic that has been on everyone's mind was how you were supposed to battle on ships???

Well, Mr. Coleman explain the process of ship fights along with some pictures.

In response to the question, he answered this:

The answer is: Deckside Combat! When you engage an enemy ship in a melee skirmish (as opposed to raking them with Broadside cannonfire), it means you pull up alongside them and use gangplanks to cross between the decks. 

Here's an example of Broadside, where I use my crappy raft to engage with a Cutthroat Frigate. The battle doesn't go well for me...

From what you can see in the picture, it seems to be a melee fight that involves some sort of clicking or aiming (I'm not in beta, so I wouldn't know)

The process of fighting doesn't seem to require much skills, but like in most MMO's, it requires to have the upper hand in weapons and in health.

Another picture was posted up a couple of hours later, and this time, talking about deckside combat, where the enemy would actually get ON the ship and fight you.

...so the Cutthroats beat me up a bit with their Cannons, then engage me in Deckside combat. Which was a bad idea for them, really, because I have a really strong crew. They would have done better to keep pummeling me from a distance.

The Pirate101 Closed Beta has been Released!

Hey all of you pirate's,

Today is a great day today, the Pirate101 Beta has just been released! That means all of you that have received or is going  to get the Beta Key have access to all of the Pirate101 goodies there is.

It was announced on Captain Avery's twitter today that Pirate101 is in closed beta stage and that over the next couple of weeks, you can have a chance at earning a key to grant you access to the Pirate101 Game!

You can also get a chance at winning a key by checking Pirate101's Facebook page because they are going to be giving out special prizes to followers ;)

Pirate101 Battle Preview

Hey all of you Pirates,

I dropped by to tell you some exciting news that I stumbled upon while cruising through Mr. J Todd Coleman's Facebook. It seems that he has posted a numerous amount of battle photo's, apparently by popular demand (ain't that the truth ;) )

Here are the amazing shots.

It seems that we also get a preview of some companions as well.

We have Bonnie Anne in this photo at what seems to be a blast attack.

We also get a small glimpse of a couple of other companions on the board, including Subodai and a Bonnie Anne looking fox.

A nice shot at one of the companions, Subodai, attacking a cutthroat shark.

What we can also notice from these pictures is a small sub-heading for each of the companions, describing what kind of warrior they are (ie. Subodai=Horse Barbarian, Bonnie Anne=Fox Musketeer)

Another photo of Subodai and a Cutthroat name Stalkin' Jake McBane, but in this photo, it seems that the shark has blocked Subodai's attacks, an interesting battle feature.

We also get a small glimpse of the Bonnie Anne look alike and what seems to be a bird companion from mooshu.

By the way, have you noticed the number of sharks in the battle field? Quite a bunch of enemies we have here. :)

The forth and final photo doesn't seem to be a battle picture, but instead, a photo of an NPC named Sergeant Shepherd.

We get to have another look at the health globe and other little buttons that are right next to it.

Another thing in this photo is that it reveals the location of this area. It seems to be called The Temple of Gloom.

Interesting name for this area.

With all of these photos posted in one day, I'm getting excited to see what other leaks will be let out before the beta gets released!

Sumo Mole?

Hey There Pirates,

I just got an update photo concept art from J Todd Coleman's Facebook, and it was quite "Huge"

A Photo of a Sumo Water Mole....exactly what it is.

These things look viciously scary...plus they are the coolest looking things ever! They are Mole form wrestlers. If we have to verse these gargantuan beings, I might faint...

If you also notice, there are also concept art of the leave skirts too XD

That is quite hysterical. I can't wait to see how these giant things look 3D.

3 Month Blog Anniversary!

Hey all of you pirates. I just wanted to drop by and say that this blog is officially a quarter of a year old! I've been working on this blog since the day Pirate101 was announced, and I've done a ton of work in this blog.

I've managed to make an Twitter account, got to meet a whole lot of new people, and make my website better.

My one and only wish is that if I could buy my own Domain Name, which I really want to do, but since my budget is low and I can't purchase a credit card right now to get one, i'm in a slump.

Other than that, I feel like this site has been growing, with almost 600 page views, over 30 posts, this Blog has accomplished allot :)

With Pirate101 around the corner, I can see this blog (and many other blogs) blossom with information and other goodies!

I just wanted to say thank you to all of those who read my blog, and I'm glad that I can entertain you with my words ^__^

Pirate101 In Game Pictures Galore!

Hey Fellow Pirates!

Solodo here with extreme news! Pirate101 will have their own stand at Comicon in San Diego with their Alpha Preview!

Too bad I live on the other side of the Country >~<

Anyways, this is an amazing chance for those who live near or even going to comicon, to get a sneak peak at what Pirate101 will be like.

Quite a stunning shot, i'll say.

Do you notice the little creature right next to him? I can't really tell what that is, but it sure looks cute!

I never realized how much Mooshu had grown....

Is it me, or when I was questing in Mooshu, I didn't realize that there was a subzero tundra or even a magma filled fire zone.....

This breathtaking photo will sure become helpful when I get to Mooshu, considering I want to also see where we wizards were traveling :D

Plus, if the concept art looks this fancy, I wonder how the world will looking when it's put into 3D animation...*Gets Ninja Hat*...we'll just have to find out now, won't we ;)

Having Trouble finding a class right for you?

Alright folks! We know that Beta Test is coming and is around the corner (Hopefully), but before you get super ecstatic, lets try and acomplish the first challenge of a new player in ANY MMO game....

Figuring Out Your Class....

Yes, it may not sound like a big deal now, but when you facing that beta test straight in the eye, you are going to look a little like this...

 *At least that Is how I looked when I was picking wizard101 schools....*

Any how, to figure out which class is best suited for you, you must go through a process of multiple steps...

Step 1: Watch a pirate movie

It doesn't matter what pirate movie, it could be The Pirates of the Caribbean or a flat out Disney film (I choose disney film but hey, who is judging ^__^), all it has to have is all of the classes included so that you get a small feeling of what the class has to offer. Plus, who knows, you might change your mind on what class you want to be ;) (Just thank ole' Solo....)

Step 2: Look at yourself in the mirror

Yes, look at yourself. When you see yourself, it'll be much more easier to picture what kind of pirate you'd want to be in the future. If you see yourself holding a musket, firing at your enemy, well you have yourself a musketeer. If you see your self with a big, humongous sword, then I guess you are a born buccaneer!

(I saw myself a bed head and drowsy look on my face...do not do this step in the morning...please)

Step 3: Personality Check 

If you know your personality well enough, it should be easier for you to find out what kind of pirate you will be! If you are one of those brave macho men/women, then you are sure ready to take on the hustle of being a true swashbuckler. To find your personality isn't easy, but I know a way to find out your true self. Step on your own foot...yup I said it. The reaction you place upon that will show what kind of pirate you are for this game:

If you:
~Laugh: Privateer

~Complain about the pain: Musketeer

~Step on your foot again: Buccaneer

~Want to step on someone elses foot: WitchDocter

~Think that this test is useless: Swashbuckler

Step 3.5: Don't sue me for stepping on your own foot, ty ^__^

Step 4: Choose your class

You are now ready to make your decision. By now you should have figured out how you look as a pirate, how you would feel as a pirate, and how you would act like a pirate.

You are now ready to roll with the big boys...

A PORTAL TO THE SPIRAL!?! You'd have to have a parrot pecking on your eyes for you not to see how cool this is. The Stormgates are going to be one of the best features in the game XD!

It's like a portal to the spiral and you sail through the worlds, HOW COOL IS THAT!?!?!?

                 

I've got to say, KI is really making the hustle to make this game amazing.

Arrr....we have Eight Pieces coming yerr way!

What is Pirate101?
Pirate101 is a brand new game that takes place in the Spiral. You can sail your custom Pirate ship through the Skyways to both strange and familiar lands. In Pirate101, your Pirate is never alone in tough battles with bosses like the Cutthroat sharks. Your Pirate crew of Companions is always by your side - plus you can play with all your friends in Pirate101!

What’s a companion?
Companions are your personal crew of ship mates that you form as you journey through the skyways. You’ll meet a lot of friendly folks while on your adventure that you can coerce to join your cause in one way or another. Your companions will take on a life of their own as they interact with you while on your journey. You’ll end up feeling pretty strongly about the worthiness of your crew in a scrap!

How do these battles play out in Pirate101?
So you want to know about all the rough and tumble you’ll be getting into, eh? There are plenty of fights ahead and many of these are going to test your wits to the limit! Strategy comes to the forefront in a battle board formation where you and your crew move about to fight and use powers. Sometimes you’ll find safety behind a barrel, while other times you’ll be leaping forward with a massive attack. There’s a wide variety of powers and skills to keep the fights interesting as well. Once you try it out, it’ll make perfect sense. Once you play it for a week or two, you’ll be finding new strategies on the battle board you never thought of before!

Pirate Class of the Week: Swashbuckler

Swashbucklers rely on speed and finesse in combat, sneaking up on their foes and striking by surprise, then dodging the enemy's attacks when they finally arrive. They are deadly with a blade, but not nearly as tough as a Buccaneer, sacrificing toughness for damage.

Just like their cunning raccoon trainer, Swashbucklers are quick on their feet and skilled with a blade. After training for the Dance of Steel power, Swashbucklers can attack every enemy around them at the same time.

Pirate Class of the Week: Witchdoctor

Witchdoctors are masters of the arcane, using the powers of hoodoo to rig the outcome of combat. While weak in a direct fight, Witchdoctors never fight fair - hexes that weaken foes, blasts of fire that strike at range, and summoned spirit allies all turn the odds in a Witchdoctor's favor.

Witchdoctors master hoodoo and the dark arts. Through their training they can learn the Mournsong power which summons spirits to drain the health of their enemies.
